The fine tradition of scouting has been available to Kaiapoi youth since the original troop started up in 1908.
Thousands of Kaiapoi children have since grabbed the chance to experience outdoor activities and camps.
The Gray Raven Kaiapoi Scout Den had some cracks in it which were made much worse by the earthquakes and it suffered extensive new damage.
The local council closed the building in the middle of 2012 and the kids have been unable to use it since.
Membership of the group has dwindled because the building is closed. Without a permanent home, the club will have to close down.
The insurance claim payout unfortunately went to Scouting NZ rather than directly to the local troop for repair of their Williams Street building.
Kaiapoi kids would love to be back into their repaired building and get the Gray Raven group on track, which a re-level and foundation repair by SmartLift would enable.
